This year was a bit more complex. It started in the usual way with Lyn doing a mock-up. Since this is the 5th book in the series, we wanted 5 dogs on the cover. Plus, each of our covers has a red element, so that made 6 images.
First hiccup: Camel usually doesn't approve more than 3 elements. We hadn't known this, but after some discussion Camel agreed that this cover deserved the 5 dogs and a little red scarecrow.
Second hiccup: Since this story takes place around Halloween, we wanted a orange background. What Lyn could achieve on her computer looked to her like "melon" but Lisa thought it looked like "flesh tone." We had to fix this! Catherine from Camel Press was able to get us a nice bright orange.
Third hiccup: Sabrina decided to move some of the dogs on the cover to different positions and used one puppy to replace the letter "i" in the word "Five". Everyone liked her idea.
Fourth hiccup: When Sabrina moved the mother dog, the dog was too close to the word "Voodoo". Lyn asked that the word "Voodoo" be moved up to showcase the mother dog. Sabrina did so and it's finally perfect!
