Although Lia has read 3 books now about Voodoo, she feels like she is out of her depth. The religion is very old. It pre-dates Christianity by over a thousand years, but it lacks a clear moral code, something we are used to in the Judeo/Christian tradition. Voodoo practitioners continue to insist that it is a religion of great power and peace, yet there are dark ceremonies that feature spirit possession. The religion's birthplace is West Africa and hoping for someone at the University with expertise in West African religion, she contacted the Religious Studies unit at Michigan State. They had no one, but referred her to the Sociology Department where she was lucky enough to contact a woman with considerable expertise. Our new consultant is willing to read the chapters in "Five Voodoo Dogs" that pertain to the Voodoo religion. Lia is grateful and relieved.
